In October 2021 the FDA required a boxed warning on all breast implants and a patient decision checklist. Your surgeon must go over the checklist with you before surgery, and you both sign it.

The FDA states: “Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices.” Some complications need more surgery.
BIA-ALCL is a T-cell lymphoma, not breast cancer, that “appears more often in patients with textured breast implants.” The FDA has also reported squamous cell carcinoma and other lymphomas in the capsule around implants, smooth and textured; it believes these may be rare. And: “Symptoms such as fatigue, memory loss, rash, ‘brain fog,’ and joint pain may be associated with breast implants.” They are still being studied.
For silicone gel implants, MRI is the most effective way to find a silent rupture, and ultrasound is an acceptable alternative. Read the FDA risks page.
Recovery
The weeks after surgery
ASPS says most people return to desk work about a week after breast augmentation, physical jobs after at least three weeks, and are cleared for all activities by about two months. Your own timeline comes from your surgeon.
