Fat transfer breast augmentation in Las Vegas: your own fat, not an implant

Some people want a little more fullness but would rather not have an implant. Fat transfer, also called fat grafting, moves fat from one part of your body to your breasts. This guide explains what it can add, where it falls short, and what to ask a surgeon in the Las Vegas Valley.

Breast Augmentation Las Vegas is a free referral service, not a clinic. A request sent from this page goes to an independent plastic surgery office in the Las Vegas Valley, which is responsible for its own care and prices.

How fat transfer works

Cleveland Clinic describes three stages. Fat is taken by liposuction from another part of your body, then purified, then injected into the breasts. It is usually done under general anesthesia as an outpatient procedure.

Because the fat is your own, there is no implant shell to rupture or replace. That is the main reason people ask about it. The trade-off is how much change it can make.

How much it adds, and its limits

  • A modest gain. Cleveland Clinic puts it at about “one or two cup sizes.”
  • No lift. Fat transfer does not lift sagging breasts. For that, see breast lift.
  • Some fat does not survive. Part of the transferred fat dies, so surgeons inject extra, and more than one session may be needed.
  • It takes time to judge. Swelling and final results can take up to six months.

Because fat is taken by liposuction, you need enough of it to harvest. Ask the surgeon at the consultation whether that is true for you.

Fat transfer is not filler

Fat grafting is surgery with your own tissue. It is different from injecting a product. The FDA recommends against using dermal filler for body contouring, including the breasts, and has not approved injectable liquid silicone for any filling use. An offer to enlarge breasts with a filler or silicone injection goes against that FDA advice.

Recovery

Cleveland Clinic says most people take about a week off work. Pain and bruising can last up to three weeks. You heal in two places, the breasts and the area where fat was taken; after liposuction, Cleveland Clinic says compression is worn for several weeks. Your surgeon will give you your own timeline.

Risks to discuss

Cleveland Clinic lists fat necrosis (fat that dies and can form a firm lump), infection, and cysts or calcifications that may need extra imaging. It says fat transfer does not raise the risk of breast cancer, and that mammograms still work for most people. Ask the surgeon what to tell whoever reads your future mammograms.

On the liposuction side, ASPS lists risks such as irregular contours, fluid buildup, infection and changes in sensation. Ask the surgeon how they reduce each one.

If you are also weighing implants: risks the FDA describes

In October 2021 the FDA required a boxed warning on all breast implants and a patient decision checklist that your surgeon goes over with you and that you both sign. The FDA states: “Breast implants are not considered lifetime devices.” BIA-ALCL, a T-cell lymphoma that is not breast cancer, “appears more often in patients with textured breast implants.”

The FDA has also reported squamous cell carcinoma and other lymphomas in the capsule around smooth and textured implants, which it believes may be rare, and notes: “Symptoms such as fatigue, memory loss, rash, ‘brain fog,’ and joint pain may be associated with breast implants.” These are still being studied. See the FDA risks page.

What fat transfer costs

ASPS reports a 2024 national range of $5,500 to $9,500 for the surgeon’s fee alone for breast augmentation with fat grafting only, and a 2023 national average of $5,719. Anesthesia and the facility are extra, and a second session would add to it. Each Las Vegas office sets its own price; the cost guide shows what to ask for in a quote.

Questions to ask a surgeon

Confirm certification on the ABPS lookup and the Nevada license on the State Board of Medical Examiners lookup. Then ask:

  1. How many fat transfer breast procedures do you perform?
  2. Do I have enough fat to harvest, and from where?
  3. How much of the fat do you expect to last, and might I need a second session?
  4. What imaging do you suggest afterward?
  5. Would implants or a lift suit my goals better?

Questions people ask

How much bigger can fat transfer make my breasts?

Cleveland Clinic puts the usual gain at about one or two cup sizes. A surgeon who examines you can say what is realistic.

Does the fat last?

Some of it does not survive, so surgeons inject extra, and more than one session may be needed. Final results can take up to six months.

Will fat transfer lift my breasts?

No. It adds volume but does not lift sagging. A breast lift addresses position.

Does fat transfer affect mammograms?

Cleveland Clinic says mammograms still work for most people, though cysts or calcifications may need extra imaging.

What does fat transfer cost in Las Vegas?

Each office sets its own price. ASPS reports a 2024 national range of $5,500 to $9,500 for the surgeon’s fee alone.
